Allow me to introduce myself, my name is Daniel (Dan)
Torrey. I'am a senior at Ellsworth High School in Ellsworth Maine.
I attend a boat building class at the local technical school only a couple
miles from my high school. There I have built Bolger/Payson's Elegant
Punt. This being my first boat took me three to four weeks to build with
alternating work days of five hours and two hours to get the job done.
The process was fun, very satisfying, and the best of all; easy. I was
surprised that with what little experince with the use of basic power tools
I had, the guidance of my shop instructor and Phil Bolger's design that I
turned out "the punt", as I call it so well. The boat looks even better now
with her hull painted bright red and all her inside, all her framing,
gunwales, and chine logs painted semi-gloss white.
I have now started on Gypsy. I fell in love with her the moment I saw the
two pictures of her one under sail and the other under oar in the Build The
New Instant Boats book. I hope that gypsy at the longest will take me to
the end of February to complete, painted and all.
So thanks to Mr.Bolger and Mr.Payson for their combined efforts to give the
oppurtunity to anyone with ambition and the right attitude the chance to
build one of these awsome boats.
-Sincerly, Dan Torrey
